Brassica’s music distills a storied musical past; capturing Balearic house, real electro, italo disco, new wave, psych, synth music, techno and rave nostalgia, without sounding consigned to any particular part of it.
Brassica’s highly sought after early releases on Dissident and his ‘DJ Mag Album of the Year’ nominated LP “Man Is Deaf” on Civil Music have developed in recent years to more acid, breaks and balmy house on his EP for Feel My Bicep. This transition has aided his promiscuous liaisons between noir influenced anxiety, naughty MIDI riffs, majestic orchestral moments and elements. All this sets his music apart and has earned him an enviable list of supporters including Bicep, DJ Harvey, Maceo Plex, Trevor Jackson, Henry Saiz, Andrew Weatherall and Erol Alkan.
DISTRICT is the brainchild of Yazyd and Haan to push the local underground scene deeper into the sounds of forward-thinking electronic music. Based on a foundation with over a decade of diverse experience DJing alongside major names in clubs, festivals and residencies, it sparked a project in 2013 that saw Yazyd and Haan’s collaborative efforts into running events and parties channeling this District concept. Back from a hiatus with a reimagined notion to provide a party atmosphere minus the flashy bottles, gimmicks, and mainstream fluff, DISTRICT drives to showcase Singapore’s current underground acts and fresh new local DJs/talents at raw new venues in the effort of providing quality electronic music experience to the masses.
Having a distinct passion for music, Yazyd has been spinning records since his younger days, immersing himself into the entertainment and music wave he has always dreamed of, while engaging in parties as well as the audio-visual industry within the regional scene. Yazyd have since been gracing consoles and shaking dance floors with his talent to conjure genres by fusing sounds into journeys set to electrify listeners. Through those years of experience, he became a virtuoso in his craft blessed with the technical skills and musical knowledge, instrumental to co-founding DISTRICT SG.
Drift into an abyss of deep, rhythmic atmospheres as Deen brings you on a journey of dark euphoric grooves. Procuring influences from the likes of Alex Niggemann to Bastinov, Traumer to Roman Poncet, expect syncopating synths, brooding basslines and hard thumping beats at his gigs. Known for playing mood defining sets, Deen aspires to bring listeners through a musical journey of genres while maintaining relevance and energy on the dancefloor. Recently active in the local underground scene spotting gigs with current party promoters in the game such as CATO, The Council, Eyes to The Front, plus a residency with underground curators DISTRICT SG, Deen is poised to continue as one of the players in the scene contributing to a steady stream of underground electronic music followers.
